The Chartered Institute of Professional Practice has submitted a comprehensive response to the government's consultation on professional standards and regulatory frameworks, calling for greater recognition of professional body qualifications and clearer pathways to chartered status.
Our response, developed in consultation with members and key stakeholders across the profession, addresses three key areas: the role of professional bodies in maintaining standards, the recognition of professional qualifications in procurement, and the future of self-regulation.
Key Points in Our Response
CIPP President Dr Margaret Williams FCIPP said: "This consultation represents a significant opportunity to shape the future of professional regulation in the UK. Our response reflects the views of our 45,000 members and our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional practice."
"Professional bodies play a vital role in maintaining standards and public trust. Any regulatory framework must recognise and support this contribution."
— Dr Margaret Williams FCIPP, CIPP President
The response outlines several specific recommendations:
- Recognition of chartered status in public sector procurement frameworks
- Clearer guidelines on the relationship between statutory and professional regulation
- Support for CPD requirements as a condition of professional registration
- Enhanced collaboration between professional bodies and government departments
What This Means for Members
The consultation outcome could have significant implications for how professional qualifications are recognised and valued across sectors. CIPP will continue to engage with the consultation process and keep members informed of developments.
Members are encouraged to read the full response document and share their views through the member portal. A webinar discussing the consultation and our response will be held on 15 February.
